Explore one of Venice’s most charming and historical areas by taking our Jewish Ghetto food tour. Featured in many books and movies, such as the Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino, the ghetto is rich with cultural and culinary tradition.
The English word ghetto actually originates here. Yes, it is a Venetian term that is now used all over the world. We will visit more than 6 eateries, ending with authentic Italian gelato. The itinerary crosses the area of the Ghetto and Cannaregio, adorned with canals, spectacular churches, cute bridges and things to see.
We will see the streets and squares of the Old Ghetto (Gheto Vecio). Our fun and informative local guide will tell you the history of the place and some fascinating curiosities.
We will see the Rabbi’s house (from outside) and the historic sinagogues of Venice (from outside). We will taste traditional jewish-venetian dishes such as Sarde al Saor and Artichoke bottoms served with great wine. Between our food and wine stops we will take a relaxing and informative stroll on the romantic walkways called “fondamenta”.
After crossing the oldest bridge in Venice – yes, the oldest out of more than 400 bridges in the city!!! – we will eat in a selected restaurant where local gondoliers and residents like to eat! We will taste pasta you will hardly find elsewhere.
We will also visit an typical old bakery where you will be served zaeti, buranelli and other special biscuits. During our walk you will also enjoy the enchanting views of Venice by night with its churches, canals and alleyways lit up and sparkling like the great prosecco wine you will be drinking.
